Case Study Reports

Dates

August 28, 2000 for case study reports.
December 1, 2000 for notification.
February 1, 2001 for final copy of report.

The submission deadlines are firm.

Goal

The technical program will include a case studies track, which will provide accounts of the application of software engineering techniques, tools, and processes to a specific domain or the development of a significant software system.

Scope

Case studies may be classified into experience reports and exemplars. Experience reports give an account of a significant project accompanied by a critical review of the experience and a discussion of some general lessons to be drawn from the experience. Exemplars describe the architecture of a system accompanied by a rationale for the key design decisions and should be organized so that the design can be used by other practitioners. Exemplars should exhibit significant examples of software architecture which can be used for study and insight.

In general, there are two key elements to a case study: a detailed account of a specific development; and, instructive overall lessons that can be drawn from that development. A case study should show critical insight whether it provides a positive or negative report.

Review Process

The case studies committee will review each case study report. Case studies must be clear, straightforward, and self-contained.

How to Submit

Submit your report in Adobe Portable Document Format (see instructions for submitting PDF files) via electronic submission. Your report must conform to the proceedings publication format. and should be about ten pages, including all text, references, appendices, and figures. We are, however, amenable to extending the length of good case studies to include relevant descriptions of context and significant detail. If submitting in PDF presents a hardship for you, contact the address below.

Acceptance Notification

December 1, 2000 for notification.

Each accepted case study report will appear as an article in the conference proceedings. This article must conform to the proceedings publication format. The final camera-ready copy and signed copyright release form are due February 1, 2001.
